Pattern Notes:
1x1 Twisted Rib - *K1tbl, p1* around. Repeat this round.
These socks are worked toe-up on one circular needle. You can learn more about this technique here. If you prefer, these socks may be worked on two circular needles or on DPNs.
Instructions for Judy's Magic Cast-on are found here.
Throughout the pattern, the first needle of the round will be referred to as the instep stitches; the second needle will be referred to as the heel stitches.
The center panel of the sock is 25 stitches wide and 32 rows tall. On each side of the panel there are 2 purl stitches and 2 knit stitches for a border.

To knit this pattern without a cable needle:
2 stitch right twist - Slip two stitches to the right needle. Holding the left needle at the back of the work, insert tip of the left needle into the back of the first slipped stitch. Remove the right needle from both stitches (the skipped stitch will be hanging free for a just a moment) and pick up the loose skipped stitch from the front. Put it back on the left needle and knit each stitch through the back loop.
2 stitch left twist: Slip two stitches to the right needle. Holding the left needle at the front of the work, insert tip of the left needle into the front of the first slipped stitch. Remove the right needle from both stitches (the skipped stitch will be hanging free for a just a moment) and pick up the loose skipped stitch from the back. Put it back on the left needle and knit each stitch through the back loop.
2 stitch right purl cross: Slip two stitches to the right needle. Holding the left needle at the back of the work, insert the tip of the left needle into the back of the first slipped stitch. Remove the right needle from both stitches (the skipped stitch will be hanging free for a just a moment) and pick the loose stitch up from the front. Put it back on the left needle and then K1tbl, p1.

Foot:
Begin chart with set-up round, row 0, on instep stitches only. This is the only time that you will work row 0. All heel stitches will be plain knit for the foot and cuff.

You will always knit across the instep in pattern.
Round 1: Knit across your instep stitches. Begin your heel stitches and knit 2 stitches. LLI. Knit across the heel stitches until the last 2 stitches. RLI. Knit the last 2 stitches.
Round 2: Knit a plain round.

Cuff -
Work 1x1 Twisted Rib for 1 inch. Bind off loosely.

Sizing Information -
There are several ways to knit this sock in a smaller size.
The first way is gauge. Dream in Color Smooshy is a thick fingering weight yarn, somewhere between fingering and sport weight. My gauge with this yarn was 7.75 stitches per inch. Using a thinner yarn that gives you a gauge of more stitches per inch will result in a smaller sock.
The second way is to adjust the pattern. The center design panel is bordered by 2 purl stitches and 2 knit stitches on each side. You could eliminate the 2 knit stitches on each side of the instep, and eliminate 4 stitches for the heel. This would result in 25 stitches for each needle. Alternately, the center of the panel features a single column of twisted stitches between the triangles. You could eliminate this center twisted stitch and the purl stitch next to it, reducing the instep stitches by 2. This will bring the points of the triangles together.
If you change the stitch pattern, information on how to recalculate the heel instructions for the different stitch count can be found here.
If you find any mistakes or have any questions about this pattern, please let me know! You can email me using the link on the left sidebar. I would love to see pictures if anyone knits these socks.

Ooh I just love these socks! I also found them on Ravelry. :)
I haven't tried toe up yet and they are a bit more complicated than anything I have tried so far, but they are just gorgeous and I can't wait to have a go!

Size 11 sock pattern? All right! This must be the reward for never being able to find the shoes I want in my size -- at least I can have cute socks. ;)
