If you've ever wondered what a blooming pomegranate tree looks like,
Not every flower turns into a fruit, thank goodness. Some of the flowers fall off the tree, but you can tell the ones that will bear fruit.
Right there in the middle is the beginning of a pomegranate. Last year we had almost 30 pomegranates from this tree. I've counted at least that many teeny fruits on the tree so far and new ones are still forming. Sometime around October we'll find ourselves spending hours doing this again:
Pomegranates are delicious, but a great deal of messy work.
Like pecans---I'd rather buy them!

We only have ornamental pomegranate bushes, which produce fruit that is inedible.

it is much cleaner and easier if you do it under water - fill a big bowl with water and imerse your hands while you peel the seeds out of the fruit, the pith floats away or rises to the top and no messy counters and hands!

I love pomegranates! I wonder if, like most other fruit, they taste better picked fresh rather than bought in the store. You are right about the mess though. :-)
